Wake Up Call

[The Admiral]

The rupee is falling. Everyone blames the currency. This is like blaming the thermometer for the fever. The disease is killing the patient. The disease is the complete absence of leadership everywhere in this country.

If there was a Nobel Prize for talking, Sri Lankan leaders would win the team award. Every single year. Without competition. Nowhere else on earth do so many people with so much power say so many words that mean absolutely nothing.

Politicians talk about solutions while the country slides into chaos. They genuinely believe talking about fixing problems is the same as actually fixing problems. Millions suffer while these conversations continue in air-conditioned rooms. Nobody feels the heat outside.

Parliament has become a complete joke. The place meant for serious solutions has turned into a circus. The Speaker with his MBBS degree has lost control of himself and the institution. The legislative process is now theatre. Everyone performs for cameras. Real people with real problems wait for someone to remember Parliament exists to serve citizens.

What solutions has Parliament produced in the last ten weeks? People live in anxiety about next month’s electricity bill. Next week’s rice. Tomorrow’s medicine. Parliament’s answer is nothing except speeches. Speeches about concern. Speeches about caring. Speeches about working hard. This is like a doctor telling a dying patient he feels very sad instead of treating the illness.

Billionaires are making more billions while ordinary people lose their minds. These wealthy business leaders appear on television giving advice about economic management. Apparently accumulating personal wealth in a collapsing economy qualifies them to guide the country. Actually it just proves they know how to profit from suffering. Profitable skill. Terrible leadership.

Religious leaders should heal minds. Instead they poison them with divisive rhetoric and political games. Temples and churches and mosques have become campaign offices. Even spiritual refuge is contaminated with toxic politics. Citizens have nowhere to go for comfort except deeper into despair.

The bureaucrats have fallen into deep sleep. Public servants who should serve the public might never wake up. These are people with knowledge and experience and power to implement solutions. Instead they became experts in explaining why nothing can be done. Why every attempt will fail. Why the system cannot change. This expertise keep the country trapped in failure forever.

Every sector has leaders. Every leader has excuses. Every excuse sounds reasonable until you realize that while everyone explains why they cannot help, real people drown in problems that could be solved if anyone with power actually cared enough to try.

The country does not need more talkers. We have enough talkers to fill stadiums. The country needs someone in power to stop talking and start doing literally anything that might help someone who is already struggling.

Wake up. This is about leadership or the complete absence of it. People in power have forgotten that power comes with responsibility. Responsibility means doing something instead of talking about doing something. The country falls apart. Millions suffer. Everyone waits for someone to remember that leadership means leading and performing leadership on television is different from actually leading anything.

The rupee falls because nobody is steering the ship. Parliament talks because talking is easier than governing. Billionaires profit because the system rewards greed over compassion. Religious leaders divide because unity requires actual work. Bureaucrats sleep because waking up means taking responsibility.

This is the leadership crisis. Talking without doing. Performing without delivering. Promising without keeping. Explaining without solving. Meanwhile the country burns and everyone with power to help stands around discussing how sad the fire is instead of bringing water.

Wake up and demand leadership that actually leads. Demand action instead of speeches. Demand solutions instead of excuses. Demand someone does something instead of just talking about doing something while people suffer waiting for help that never comes.
