Hanif Yusoof clarifies position amid Governor Resignation Speculation

Western Province Governor Hanif Yusoof has issued a clarification regarding recent media speculation surrounding his position as Governor of the Western Province. In a public statement, he confirmed that he had previously informed President Anura Kumara Dissanayake of his intention to step down from the role due to the growing challenge of balancing multiple responsibilities.

According to the statement, Yusoof said the demands of serving as Governor, alongside his duties as the President’s Special Envoy for Foreign Direct Investment and his family obligations, had become increasingly difficult to manage. He described it as a privilege to have served in public office and contribute towards the country’s progress.

Yusoof further stated that, at the request of the President, he would continue serving as Governor until a suitable successor is identified to ensure a smooth and orderly transition. He emphasized that the arrangement was made in the interest of maintaining stability within the administration.

He also noted that after stepping down from the governorship, he would continue serving in his voluntary honorary role as Special Envoy to the President for Foreign Direct Investment. In that capacity, he said he hopes to support the President’s vision by utilizing his international networks and relationships to help attract foreign investment to Sri Lanka.

Reaffirming his commitment to national service, Hanif Yusoof expressed appreciation for the confidence and trust placed in him by the President and stated that his dedication to supporting the country’s development remains unchanged.
