Sandaruwan Senadeera, editor of the ‘Lanka e News’ website, was arrested this afternoon (11) at the Bandaranayake International Airport (BIA) upon his return to Sri Lanka.
Police sources confirmed that the arrest was made because he has been named a suspect in a case currently pending before the courts. He is being held at the Katunayake Police Station, where he is reportedly recording his statements.
Senadeera left Sri Lanka following the disappearance of journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda and the 2010 arson attack on ‘Lanka e News.’ He subsequently lived in the United Kingdom under political asylum for nearly 16 years.
During his time abroad, he continued to support the National People’s Power (NPP) through his platform, using the website to influence political developments, including the last presidential and general elections.
The authorities have not yet released further details regarding the specific charges or the case in which Senadeera is implicated.
