Lenawa is out of the race

Special Report

As the government intensifies its search to fill the top leadership roles at the struggling national carrier, the controversial candidacy of Chamindra Lenawa for the Chief Executive Officer position has reportedly opened the eyes of senior decision-makers.

Given Lenawa’s highly scrutinized past records and the incredibly high stakes involved in rescuing SriLankan Airlines, his potential appointment has sparked deep concern among top decisionmakers.

The leadership crisis at the airline is twofold. Government sources indicate that in addition to filling the CEO vacancy, the government is actively hunting for a new Chairman for the national carrier. However, finding a suitable candidate for the chairmanship has proven exceptionally difficult due to the intense public and political scrutiny currently surrounding the airline’s management.

With government sources indicating that these compounding challenges have prompted a serious reassessment by senior leaders, the daunting task of finding an uncompromised CEO and Chairman to navigate SriLankan Airlines out of its current turbulence remains highly volatile and unresolved.
